(a) State 3 advantages and 3 disadvantages of air transportation
Advantages of air transportation
(i) Used to transport relief materials at emergency periods
(ii) Can reach the farthest, remotest and Inhospitable areas (iii) Efficient service delivery
(iv) useful In transporting perishable goods
(v) Uses direct routes (Great circle) (vi) Less affected by barriers such as land topography forest or oceans
(vii) Suitable for military operations (viii) Routes do not require construction and maintenance
(ix) Suitable for transporting items of high value (x) Convenient and comfortable
(xii) Best suited for passenger traffic.
Disadvantages of Air Transportation:
(i) Easily affected by bad weather e.g harmattan-haze, cloud and line squalls.
(ii) Accidents are usually fatal
(iii) It is very expensive to buy and maintain terms of serving spare parts etc
(iv) it depends on other means of transportation to carry goods to final consumers
(v) Not flexible, i.e cannot be used for door- to- door service (vi) Airports are expensive to construct and maintain
(vii) Expensive in terms of air fares/ charges. (viii) Space constrains for very many passengers/freight at a time.
