(b) Characteristics of Vegetation Belts:
The Veldt:
(i) Short grasses, less than 1 metre high
(ii) Complete absence of trees except along her valleys or where water table is high
(iii) Warm temperate grassland
(iv) Whither to drab-brown in dry season
(ii) Mediterranean Forest:
(i) Trees have leathery leaves
(ii) Contains a lot sweet-smelling herbs (Lavender, Rose-Mary, Oleander)
(iii) Low shrubs growing in scattered clumps
(iv) Typical trees include Oak, Laurel, Lavender
(v) Evergreen or deciduous trees that grow to a height of 2-3 metres in favourable locations
(vi) Trees have long tap-roots
(viii) Needle-like leaves
(iii) Tropical Grassland:
(i) Trees have long tap-root, thick bark and tiny leaves
(ii) Tall trees and grasses in wetter areas
(iii) Typical trees are isobelina, silk-cotton, acacia, locust bean, shea butter
(iv) Short grasses and short scattered trees are deciduous
(v) Scrub and thorny bushes towards the driest areas
(vi) Grasses appear green and fresh in the rainy season but turn yellowish during the dry season
(vii)Average height of grass is 2-meters
