Write a geographical account of ECOWAS under the following headings

(c) Possible solutions
(a) Aims and Objectives of ECOWAS include:
(i) To increase trade between the member countries
(ii) To cooperate in cultural areas such as education, music and art
(iii) To promote cooperation and development in other economic activities such as industry, transport, energy, etc
(iv) To contribute to a common fund which could be used to compensate countries that may lose economically as a result if the organisation and development of foreign investment
(v) To establish a common currency eventually.
(b) Membership of ECOWAS: It is made up of sixteen West African countries which are Nigeria, Benin Republic, Togo, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Loene, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Gambia, Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger.
(c) Possible solutions to these problems:
(i) Payment of annual dues should be compulsory as any member who refuses to pay should be suspended
(ii) Proper orientation among the members as there should be equality in the discussion and formulation of resolutions
(iii) A neutral body should be set up to execute programmes or projects for the organisation
(iv) President of ECOWAS should be rotated among the Heads of State of each country
(v) The formation of a common currency, should be implemented to facilitate inter-regional trade.
