Since both countries are in the East of the Meridian, subtraction is needed. Therefore, 11¤E(Munich) minus(-) 96¤E(Calcutta) equals 85¤. Mathematically, 11¤E-96¤E=85¤. Since earth rotate 15¤ in an hour, 85¤ divided by 15¤ =5.4hours. Therefore, time in Munich(9:00am) (plus) 5:40hours(calculated time above) =(equals) 2:40PM.

Remember that East "Gain" while West "Lose".

Apart from the contribution above, another method which i consider simpler is this: since munich is 11¤E and Calcutta is 96¤E. From 11¤E to 96¤E, that is 5hours. Calculate an hour each(earth rotates 15¤ in ONE hour) from 11¤(15¤) to 96¤(90¤) and that will amounts to 5hours plus the given time of Munich(9:00am) that gives us 9:00 5hrs=2:00pm. Definitely, 2:40PM is the right answer.

I hope someone finds this useful.
