It was THEY who fought the civil war, not them,in the other sense "they fought the civil war". Answer should be A@myschool

Them is the correct answer. Because someone is narrating the action to another person. It was ___ who fought the civil war. It is the subject of the verb was referring to another pronoun ( people).I. e third person pronoun. The whole sentence is talking about the action performed by them.
