had started is the ans becos whenever had is used to join two clause together, an adverb of time should be used and the time adverb here is "after."

this is called 'tense balancing'..thw type of verb in the first clause determines the verb in the other clause... 'got' is a past tense while had too

in other way round the sentence should be the play HAD STARTED when we get to the hall so is correct
