The sentence given is:

"My uncle told me, 'I have a large house and you are welcome to the protection it offers'."

To report this speech in the past tense correctly, we must:

Shift the tense of verbs one step back.

Change pronouns appropriately.

So:

"I have" → he had

"you are welcome" → I was welcome

"it offers" → it offered

Thus, the correct reported version is:

"My uncle told me that he had a large house, and I was welcome to the protection it offered."

Correct Option: D
"he had a large house , and i was welcome to the protection it offered"
structurally it's the best answer grammatically.

Answer should be E. Her uncle still has a large house so It can not be 'had' which will be implying that the uncle is no longer in possession of this house.
