The underlined vowel sound in "potable" is the first 'o', pronounced like the vowel sound in "pot" /ˈpɒtəbl/ (in British English). That sound is the short /ɒ/ sound.
Let’s compare the options:
A. paw – /pɔː/ → vowel sound /ɔː/ (different) B. pot – /pɒt/ → vowel sound /ɒ/ (same) C. port – /pɔːt/ → vowel sound /ɔː/ (different) D. post – /pəʊst/ → vowel sound /əʊ/ (different)
Correct answer: B. pot.
