well "a number" is s singular expression, but "a number of" is used with plural nouns, in this case cars, there u have it, "have"!!!

Because when a number of is involved a plural verb must be used according to rule of concord

have, has, had goes with been while is,was-being.Cars is a plural which goes With plural(have)

Correct "a number ' Functions as a plural and it goes with a plural verb .so it's have

it should be "has" a singular verb goes with a singular noun. "a number" signifies a singular noun and "has" signifies a singular verb. I hope this helps.

'a number of'.., shows singularity...the noun of the sentence borders on 'a number of' not 'cars',...read meaning into the sentence pls.
Therefore, The correct answer shld be 'has'
