The function X = a + bY is a linear function. In mathematics, a linear function is a polynomial function of degree zero or one, or is
the zero polynomial. In linear algebra and functional analysis, a linear function is a linear map. In calculus and related areas, a
linear function is a polynomial of degree one or less. When the function is of only one variable, it is of the form f(x) = mx + c,
where m and c are constants. The graph of such a function of one variable is a nonvertical line. m is the slope of the line, and c is
the y-intercept.
