Stephen is the patron saint of deacons and stonemasons. The name Stephen is Greek, and chapter 6 of The Acts of the Apostles 6 tells us that he was a Hellenist (a foreign-born Jew who spoke Greek). He lived in Jerusalem and had become a Christian

Acts 12:1-3 (KJV) Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.
And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.
And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)

The second Christian martyr, Stephen was a true hero of the faith because of his faith, commitment to the Word, and his heart of forgiveness. 1John 4 For whatever is born of God overcomes (NIKAO) the world.
