Moses took the bones of Joseph during the exodus because
Before Joseph died in Egypt, he made the "sons of Israel" swear that they would carry his bones out of Egypt when God eventually came to lead them to the Promised Land. This request was seen as an act of faith; Joseph believed God's promise that his descendants would one day return to the land of Canaan.
Even though hundreds of years had passed, Moses remembered this responsibility and ensured the oath was honoured during the rapid departure from Egypt.
