The offence of the addressee (Saul) was that he: B. spared Agag and the fatty animals of Amalek.
This can be found in 1 Samuel 15. God had commanded Saul to utterly destroy the Amalekites and all their possessions, but Saul spared King Agag and some of the best livestock. This disobedience led to Samuel's rebuke and the subsequent rejection of Saul as king by God.
