Which of the following disciples was called from the tax office by Jesus?
Levi and Matthew are actually the same person:
In Mark 2:14 and Luke 5:27–29, the man at the tax office is called Levi, son of Alphaeus.
In Matthew 9:9, the same event is described, but the tax collector is called Matthew.
From this, Bible scholars generally agree that Levi is another name for Matthew, the disciple who later became one of the twelve apostles and the traditional author of the Gospel of Matthew.
