Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, first invaded Jerusalem during the reign of King Jehoiakim of Judah. 2 Kings 24:1 (RSV):
"In his days Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up, and Jehoiakim became his servant for three years..." Later, when Jehoiakim rebelled, Nebuchadnezzar returned and eventually carried away treasures from the temple and deported many people. 2 Kings 24:13 (RSV):
"And he carried off all the treasures of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the king's house..."
