The answer is A. In Luke 14:26, Jesus says:
"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple."

This is a hyperbolic statement emphasizing the supreme commitment to Christ over family ties. It doesn't literally mean to hate, but to prioritize Jesus above all else.

The other options are all correct aspects of being a disciple:

B. bear his own cross – Jesus tells His followers to take up their cross (Luke 14:27).

C. be a poor man – Poverty isn’t a requirement, but Jesus does call us to deny ourselves and not be attached to material wealth.

D. count the cost – Jesus tells His disciples to count the cost before following Him (Luke 14:28-30).

So, the correct answer is A, which is the more difficult teaching, often misunderstood. Jesus uses strong language here (hyperbole) to stress the importance of prioritizing Him above all relationships, even family. The word "hate" is used to convey that following Jesus requires total commitment. So, it's not about literally hating family but about choosing Christ over everything else.

The answer is not correct.
The real answer is (D) count the cost.
In the Gospels, Jesus never cared about the financial strength of his disciples; the first 4 disciples were not rich- they were fishermen
Christ said that it you want to be my disciples you should leave everything you have and follow me.
He told them to sell all they have and give to charity and come back and follow me regardless of the cost.

The correct answer is that A disciple of Jesus must not count the cost of his sacrifice but follow in truth and spirit which is (D)
