In 1 Samuel 30:11-15 (RSV), David and his men found an Egyptian servant who had been abandoned by his Amalekite master because he fell sick. David gave him food and water to restore his strength. In gratitude, the young man agreed to lead David to the Amalekite camp. While revenge might have played a role, the key reason he helped David was David’s kindness to him when he was helpless.
