Alkanes are a family of organic compounds wich are saturated. D only reaction dey undergo iz substition reaction where one or more hydrogen atom iz replaced by anoda element

Alkanes are saturated compounds with no pi bonds therefore they do not undergo addition because of the strength of these sigma bonds but rather undergo substitution

single bonds undergo substitution reaction(alkane) and double and triple bonds undergo addition reaction which have effect on bromine water and acidify kmno4, so take note

Alkane does not undergo subsitution reaction alone but also combustion rxn as well

Because an alkane is a complete compound
Their is no place for any addition of other element so inorder to do that we subtituite to add
So it undergoes substitution reaction
