my school The answer is A not C rusting occurs when iron combines with atmospheric oxygen and water which is accelerated by Carbon dioxide to for a hydrated brown iron (iii) oxide

iron is a metal and generally oxides of metals are basic while those of non metals are acidic.
Fe2O3 is insoluble hence it is not an alkali but it is a base
