Heating ammonium chloride it decomposs to ammonia and HCl gas. Ammonia is lighter is it rises and HCl falls. Ammonia reacts with litmus turning it Blue because it is basic

The correct option is D because on heating both gases will diffuse to the neutral litmus but ammonia gas being lighter and basic will first reach the neutral litmus changing it to blue before changing to red upon the arrival of HCl with is heavier and acidic.
Intially it is blue because the rate of diffusion of ammonia is faster than hydrogen chloride gas.

when NH4CL is heated,it decomposes into ammonia gas which is a basic gas and hydrogen chloride gas which is acidic. due to ammonia being lighter,it diffuses than HCL so the damp litmus comes in contact with the ammonia before the HCL
and ammonia is basic so it turns the litmus paper blue

options not correct... after Google-ing it is said that the litmus should 'initial' turn blue before turning red because of the ammonia gas evolved before hydrogen chloride is evolved
