s orbital contain 2 , p contains 6, d contains 10 while f contains 14. ( i add four to remember this add 2 to 4 gives you 6 , 6 to 4 gives you 10 and 10 to 4 gives you 14). thats what i use to remember it

Number of electrons = 4L + 1
S= 0, P = 1, D= 2 and F = 3
4(3) + 1 = 14
