Cracking involves breaking down large hydrocarbon compounds to yield two or more products. E.g cracking of petroleum/crude oil gives petrol, kerosene, diesel, lubricating oil, bitumen etc. at different temperatures. Cracking cannot yield a single product,rather, two or more.
It's like cutting a big loaf of bread into numerous slices.
