bromine water distinguishes saturated compounds and unsaturated compounds
for saturated compounds(alkanes) their is no visible reaction
for unsaturated compounds(alkene and alkyne) it decolorizes it
fehlings solution distiguishes alkanal and alkanone
fehlings colution is copper 2 sulfate
alkanal is a good reducing agent which reduces copper 2 sulfate to copper 1 sulfate
but alkanone have no visible reaction with fehlings solution
Ammoniacal silver trioxonitrate(V) i.e silver mirror test also distingushes alkanal from alkanone
where alkanone shows no visible reaction .
