C is very correct

Mg-----> Mg+

magnesium moves from oxidation number 0 to +2

hence it has been oxidized hence acting as a reducing agent

NB weathwe in electrochemical or electrolytic cells oxidation occur in the anode and reduction in the cathode.

and also element that are higher up in the ECS are used as the anode

hence C 🌹⛈️

Lies MG is oxidized because it is moving in the positive direction

And oxidation occurs in the anode

Copper is below magnesium in the the electrochemical series and so cannot reduce magnesium

Also when something is oxidized the charge increases in the positive direction and when it is reduced the charge decreases in the positive direction

It is also worthy to note that elements give up electrons at the anode and are therefore oxidized,i.e oxidation occurs at the anode. Oxidation is the loss of electron(s)

Mg lost two electrons and became an ion (mg2+)

That 2+ shows that the elecron and the proton are no longer equal in number,in a neutral atom the proton and electron are equal, the proton is a positive charge and the electron is a negative charge so the 2+ charge of the magnesium shows the positive charge of the atom is greater than the negative charge by 2 which means that 2 negative charge(electron) was lost

With this few points of mine it's safe to say the answer is C

please review this my school the answer is C not B , we all know that oxidation occurs at the anode to reduce the cathode if we're to perform electrolysis between Copper and magnesium, magnesium will be made the anode where it will lose 2 electrons to reduce copper in the cathode but if you make copper the anode the system is said to be non spontaneous because the reaction can not occur, Copper can not reduce magnesium because it is far lower than magnesium in the electrochemical series
pls review this question @my school

In both electrochemical and electrolytic cell, Oxidation always occurs at the anode.
Mg was oxidized from my to mg +² which means it underwent oxidation and there was an increase in oxidation number
The opposite occured in copper which accepted 2 elections from mg and became reduced to metallic cu which means it underwent reduction so the answer is clearly C @myschool please review my suggestion and make the necessary changes.. Thanks in advance

the correct answer is C

Greetings, The Myschool Team.
The correct answer is C (Magnesium is the anode) and not B(Magnesium is reduced). The oxidation number of magnesium increases from 0 to +2, meaning that magnesium is oxidized and not reduced. However, this also implies that it is the anode, as oxidation takes place at the cathode. Thus, the correct answer is C (Magnesium is the anode) and not B(Magnesium is reduced). Thank you.

Please Explain?

reduction occurs at the anode in an electrolytic cell so this is an electrochemical cell hence it is the reverse.

The anode is always written on LHS and cathode on RHS.
