The highest number of electrons s-block can contain is 2, and there are 2 constant electrons in every atoms. Now to know the number of orbit in s-block is to divide 2 by 2 which gives 1. So there is one orbial in s-sub shel.

Moreso, to find how many orbit p-sub shell contain first remember that the highest electrons in p orbital is 6 and also note that there are 2 constant electrons in every atoms. Hence, you can find how many orbital in p sub- shell by dividing 6 by 2 which gives 3. That is to say that there are 3 orbital in p sub-shell.

Corrolary, in d sub -shell, the maximum electrons is 10 and remember the constant 2 electrons. Then divide 10 by 2 to give 5. Hence, there are 5 orbitals in d-block.

so you can just think of a subshellas half of the actual shell
