CARBON is a non-metal to people for a long time under the names charcoal, soot and diamond. It occurs naturally as DIAMOND and GRAPHITE. Carbon also occurs in an impure form as coal and in the combined state as petroleum, wood and natural gases.

The right answer is (D)

Carbon exists in the combined state as petroleum, wood and natural gases.

The correct answer is D. wood.

Explanation:
Carbon exists in:
Free state: as graphite and diamond
Combined state: as compounds with other elements
Wood contains carbon combined with other elements (mainly in cellulose and lignin), so it's a combined state of carbon.

Graphite, diamond, and coal are all forms of carbon in the free state.

The correct answer is B. coal.

Carbon exists naturally in the combined state as:

- Coal (a fossil fuel composed of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen)
- Limestone (calcium carbonate, CaCO3)
- Dolomite (calcium magnesium carbonate, CaMg(CO3)2)
- Hydrocarbons (such as natural gas and petroleum)

Graphite (A) and diamond (C) are both elemental forms of carbon, not combined states.

Wood (D) is a biological material composed of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, which contain carbon, but are not pure carbon.

Coal is a combined state of carbon, as it contains carbon bonded to other elements like hydrogen, oxygen, and sulfur.

Sir it is coal

The correct answer is B. coal. Carbon exists naturally in the combined state in materials like coal, which is a sedimentary rock composed mainly of carbon along with various other elements. While graphite, diamond, and wood also contain carbon, they are not typically referred to as "combined states" of carbon in the same sense as coal. Graphite and diamond are allotropes of pure carbon, and wood is a complex organic material composed of various compounds, including carbon.

Can coal be the current answer? Because during carbonization, it gains some impurities i.e hydrogen, nitrogen e.t.c. Doesn't that make it in a combined state? it also occurs naturally.

the correct answer is B.(coal)
coal is in a combined state containing....carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and sulfur (nah play Dem dey play for there๐Ÿ˜’๐Ÿ˜’) so how you go talk say coal is a form of carbon in free state....๐Ÿคจ
