The IUPAC nomenclature of the compound shown in the image is **2-bromo-3-chlorobutanol** because of the following reasons:

1. Numbering of Carbon Atoms:
- We start by numbering the carbon atoms in the longest continuous chain. In this case, the longest chain contains four carbon atoms
- The bromine (Br) and chlorine (Cl) substituents are attached to the second and third carbon atoms, respectively.

2. Alphabetical Order of Substituents:
- When multiple substituents are present, we arrange them alphabetically.
- The prefix for bromine is bromo, and for chlorine, it is chloro.
- Therefore, the correct order is bromo before chloro

3. Configuration:
- The bromine (Br) is on the right side (highest priority) at the second carbon (C2).
- The chlorine (Cl) is on the left side (second-highest priority) at the third carbon (C3).

4. Putting It All Together:
- Combining the information above, we get the IUPAC name: 2-bromo-3-chlorobutanol

Therefore, the correct answer is A. 2-bromo-3-chlorobutanol

The answer is B, bcos when naming hydrocarbons we start counting from the OH the next closest to it in this Compound is chlorine then bromine.
Thank you

The selected answer is wrong:

when naming hydrocarbons according to the rule of naming hydrocarbons, you name alphabetically before the parent name and B comes before C so it should be 3-bromo -2-chloro butanol

I think the answer should be A because when naming,u consider first their alphabetical order and then then one most close to d branched chain
