You count the long possible chain and not the straight chain. The longest chain there is 6(hexane). Not counting the functional group. The iupac name is 3,5 dimethyl hexagon-3-ene. Pls verify answers before u post

identify the longest chain and start counting the carbon from the closest of d functional group which was ene (double bond) in this question

Tjis thing us 2-ethyl-4methylpent-2-ene nah
C2H5 is ethyl not metgyl where's the dimethyl there
My school make corrections pls

1. Identify the longest chain containing the double bond
From the diagram, the longest continuous chain that includes the C=C has 6 carbon atoms β hexene
So the parent name is: hex-ene
2. Number the chain to give the double bond the lowest number
Numbering from the left gives the double bond between C-3 and C-4
β hex-3-ene
3. Identify substituents
At C-2 β a methyl (CHβ) group
At C-4 β another methyl (CHβ) group
So we have: 2,4-dimethyl
4. Combine everything
Final name: 2,4-dimethylhex-3-ene
Correct answer: C. 2,4-dimethylhex-3-ene

Plz the Ans is A,.CH2 and CH3 gives C2H5 which is the ethyl grp. So you should not count them as two diff Carbon atoms
