The solubility curve of a solid X (molecular mass = 160) is as show above. 1,000 cm3 of a saturated solution of X at 80°C is cooled to 40°C . The weight of X crystalized out would be

10 g
12 g
14 g
16 g
18 g

Diff in mol =0.4-0.3=0.1mol
Mol=mass/molar mass
0.1=mass/160
Mass=0.1x160=16g

look at the diagram 80°c if u follow the lineit will give u 0.4 mol and 40°c if u follow the line u will get 0.3mol

Here is the correct explanation:
not really i dont understand how to arrive at the answer can anyone help

At 80°C = 0.3, At 40°C = 0.4
On cooling, 0.4 - 0.3. = 0.1mol.
But, solubility = mass/ molar mass X 1000/vol.
Then, 0.1mol = mass/160 X 1000/200
1000/ 200 = 5
0.1mol = mass /160 X 5
let mass = M
0.1mol = 5M/160
5M = 0.1 X 160
Divide both sides by 5
5M/ 5 = 0.1 X 160/5
M = 0.1X 160/ 5.
= 3.2g.
