The Correct Option Is C. NaHSO3.

When SO2 Was Passed Into the Solution For A Long Time It Means SO2 Is In Excess. this is just like when CO2 is bubble into lime water and the lime water turns milky which disappears when CO2 is bubble into the the solution for a long time to for Ca(HCO3)2.
With regard SO2, the equation of rnx is;
SO2 + 2NaOH ==> Na2SO3 + H2O
Na2SO3 + H2O + SO2(excess) ==> 2NaHSO3

See the snapshots from the ababio page 391//392.

They only said when so2 is passed for a long time. They didn't say it was in excess (that the rate of a reaction is slow doesn't mean it is in excess)

I'll go with B

NaHSO3 is a stable salt of the unstable acid H2SO3. It is obtained as follows:
NaOH+SO2---->NaHSO3 hence the correct answer is C

note: the answer would have been c if they say sulphur in excess which means an acid salt NAHSO3 will be produced, but the questions says for a long time. not in excess,s
o myschool is right the answer is NA2SO3

I have noticed a technical error in Question 40 regarding the reaction between sulfur (IV) oxide and sodium hydroxide. The question specifies that SO_2 is passed into the solution "for a long time," which indicates that SO_2 is the reagent in excess. While the initial reaction produces sodium sulfite (Na_2SO_3), continued exposure to the gas causes the sulfite to react further with water and the excess SO_2 to form the acid salt, sodium hydrogen sulfite (NaHSO_3). Therefore, the correct answer should be Option C, but the system incorrectly marks Option B as the right choice. I kindly request that you review the chemical logic of this multi-stage reaction and update the answer key to reflect NaHSO_3 as the final product.
