The selected answer is wrong:

Myschool don't get us confused, Sodium does not react "vigorously" with oxygen rather it tarnishes on exposure to air due to its reaction with oxygen, water vapour and carbon dioxide forming Sodium Trioxocarbonate (IV) , thereby reducing the metallic lustre. This is the reason why Na is stored under paraffin wax.

REF: New school chemistry page 449

Sodium is always stored under paraffin oil to prevent it from being oxidized by atmospheric air which constitute Oxygen, Carbon(IV)oxide and water vapour (inert gases and Nitrogen inclusive).

Sodium reacts with Oxygen to give Sodium oxide which reacts with water vapour to form Sodium hydroxide which further react with Carbon(IV)oxide to form Sodium trioxocarbonate.

To prevent these reactions is a reason Sodium is stored under oil.

Isn't it A.

Thanks @ sea never dries. Sodium is always kept under paraffin oil, toluene or naphtha to prevent its oxidation by the atmospheric gases or air(New school Chemistry Chapter 27 page 447 under metals and compounds 1). "C" is correct.

Waw! Well under the chemical properties of sodium, looking at is reation with air.
Sodium tarnishes easily when exposed to air because it is readily oxidized by atmospheric oxygen to form sodium oxide.
Note: this oxide reats with water vapour in the air to form sodium hydroxide, which slowly absorbs atmospheric carbon(IV) oxide to form crystals of hydrated sodium trioxocarbonate(IV). So the answer remains C. New school chemistry pg 449

Option C is also correct. Sodium reacts vigorously on exposure to air, forming sodium oxide and sodium hydroxide. However, the primary reason sodium metal is kept under oil is to prevent its reaction with water. Sodium reacts violently with water, producing hydrogen gas and heat. Keeping it under oil creates a barrier that prevents contact with water and minimizes the risk of an uncontrollable reaction.

The reaction is not vigorous ~D is the most suitable answer.

yeah it react readily with atmospheric oxygen not vigorously but no option was correct
In exam conditions I will choose C

C. Is correct

Sodium metal store under parafin oil due to there reactivities when expose to Air.
