Dear scholars, Please note that this question is incomplete, it's supposed to be "the primary function" because of course as you know H2SO4 has 2 functions in the reaction, As a catalyst and as a drying agent(options A and C)

The primary function is As a catalyst, so anywhere you see this question always pick as a catalyst, unless you're asked for the "Secondary or Subsequent function" which is as a drying agent.

Good luck ❤️

It acts as a catalyst becos it only alters the reaction but it still remains unchanged in d reaction

(ii) The concentrated H2SO4 acts as a catalyst and a dehydrating agent and helps in the removal of water formed in the reaction between alcohol and carboxylic acid.

it serves dual purpose
both dehydration and a catalyst
