Molar mass of MSO4 = 56+32+4(16) = 152
Molar mass H2O = 2(1)+16 = 18
molar mass of xH2O = 18x
molar mass of MSO4.xH2O = 152 + 18x

Percentage by mass of water = mass of water Γ— 100/total molar mass

so 45.3% = 18x Γ— 100/(152+18x)
45.3 = 1800x/(152+18x)

cross multiply......... and collect like terms.
you'll finally arrive at......
984.6x = 6885.6
x=7
