Starch is converted to ethylalcohol, in other words alcohol, by fermentation. Fermentation is a process that involves d slow degradation of larger molecules (e.g starch) to lower molecules (e.g ethanol). The processes involve is as thus: step 1: starch is first hydrolysed to maltose by d enzyme amylase or dil. H2SO4. Step 2: Maltose is further hydrolysed to 2molecules of Glucose using maltase as d active enzyme. Step 3: the Glucose is finally oxidized to ethanol and carbon(iv)oxide catalysed by enz. Zymase. Step 4: the products will nw undergo fractional distillation
