The answer is definitely C....metallic elements have the tendency to loss electrons and elements on the left-hand side of the periodic table loses electrons more easily than the elements of the right-hand side(the left hand side of the periodic table compromises more of metals, whhle the right hand side compromise more of non-metals)

The statement that is **not true** is: **C. electropositive character of elements increases** ✅

**Explanation:**

* **A. atomic number increases** → True, because each element to the right has one more proton.
* **B. atomic mass increases** → Generally true (with minor anomalies, e.g., Ar and K).
* **C. electropositive character increases** → ❌ False. Electropositive character (metallic nature) **decreases** from left to right; elements become more non-metallic.
* **D. electronegative character increases** → True, especially across a period, non-metals on the right are more electronegative.
* **E. number of electrons in the outermost orbit increases** → True, as you move across, valence electrons increase until the shell is full.

The correct answer supposed to be D okay.

Electronegativity decreases across the period just like electron affinity and ionization energy
