Datas Given from the question:
- Mass of oxide of the metal = 1g
- Atomic mass of the metal = 64g
- Mass of the metal on reduction with hydrogen = 0.8g
Therefore; mass of the oxide = mass of oxide of metal - mass of metal = 1 - 0.8 = 0.2g
To find the Empirical formula,
x. 0
0.8 0.2
divide each by it's atomic mass
0.8/64 = 0.0125 0.2/16= 0.0125
divide each by the smallest number
0.0125/0.0125 = 1 0.0125/0.0125 =1
Therefore, the formula of the of the metallic oxide
