the oxidation number of Oxygen is -2 and the oxidation number of Potassium is +1,and we are told to look for the Oxi no of Manganese.So we equate it all to zero and multiply their various oxidation numbers by the no of atoms :
(+1*K)+Mn+(-2*4Oxygens)=0
