oil spillages and pollution are a well-known killer of marine life. When crude oils spill, thick layers of oil usually float on water, preventing oxygen from dissolving into the water. When oxygen is restricted from dissolving in water, marine lives which depend on dissolved oxygen for respiration, begin to die out. Over time, many aquatic lives might even be irreversibly destroyed.

Increase in acidity of the water benfits some marine life like Plankton, it helps to harden their shells and make it stronger.

The correct answer is A. destruction of marine life.
Here's why:
* A. destruction of marine life: Oil spills are very harmful to animals and plants living in the ocean. The oil can coat them, poison them, and ruin their homes.
* B. desalination of the water: Desalination means removing salt from water. Oil spills don't do that.
* C. increase in the acidity of the water: While oil spills can have some chemical effects, they don't significantly change the overall acidity of the ocean.
* D. detoxification of the water: Detoxification means removing poison. Oil spills add poison, they don't remove it.
