yeah, a substitution reaction of ethyne to distinguish it from ethene which does not form metallic derivatives....
ethyne reacts with copper,silver and sodium to form copper(I)dicarbide, silver dicarbide and sodium carbide respectively. (most common is calcium carbide.)
