the answer is B , water molecule has 2 lone pairs of electron, the Central atom being oxygen which belongs to the group 6 of the periodic table while hydrogen belong to the first group of the periodic table having a valence electron of 1 , using this information we can calculate the bond pair and lone pair present in the molecule
formula for calculating lone pair is
central atom-bond pair
remember oxygen is the central atom while hydrogen is the bond pair and the bond pair of water is 2
6-2=4
so therefore the lone pair present in water molecule is 2 because each oxygen molecule contributes 2 atoms for the reaction
please review this question my school
thank you 🙏🙏

@Myschool,,,, pls the answer should be 2 and not 1...

Make reference to New School Chemistry page 62, table 4.10, elecrons pairs in covalent molecules...

The electron-dot structure of NH 3 places one pair of nonbonding electrons in the valence shell of the nitrogen atom. This means that there are three bonded atoms and one lone pair for a coordination number of four around the nitrogen, the same as occurs in H 2O.the answer is 1
