If 100 cm³ of oxygen pass through a porous plug in 50 seconds, the time taken for the same volume of hydrogen to pass through the same porous plug is?

Correct Answer: Option B

Explanation

100 cm³ of O₂ diffuse 50 sec
∴ 100 cm³ of H₂ → (100) / (100) x (50) /(1)
t₁ 50 sec
molecular mass H₊ → 2 x 1 = 2
molecular mass of O₂ 16 x 2 = 32

T₂ = t₁ √M₂/M₁ = t₂ = 50 √2/32

50√0.625 = 50 x 0.25 = 12.5 secs
