X and Y are having 10 electrons.
now
X- : is anion /non metal ,it has gain electron
Y+ : is cation /metal , it has lost an electron
so when X- having 10 electron & gain 1electron it is 10+1 =11e
y+ having 10 & lost an electroni it is 10-1 =9 e.
but the question ask of PROTONS .
so the number of proton is 10 & 10.
since element only lost an electron not a proton
correct option is A
had it been they ask of electrons, then
the correct option should be C 11 & 9
