Upward displacement of air is good for gases

that are heavier/denser than air, and are soluble

in water.

Examples are carbon dioxide, hydrogen

chloride, sulfur dioxide and chlorine.

As a general guide, a gas is less dense than air if

its molecular mass is less than 30, so you should

be looking at gases with Mr more than 30!

The answer is C, and chlorine cannot be collected by the upward displacement of air because the molar mass is greater than 29

D is clearly the answer here. this is because gases with a molecular mass greater than 29g/mol are denser than air(meaning they sink in air)
A; NO= 30g/mol
B; H2= 2g/mol
C; NH3= 17g/mol
D; CL2= 71g/mol
the answer would be D: Chlorine(Cl2)

upward displacement is used for gases soluble in water but less dense than air. Ammonia NH3 is the correct option.
