The problem you're asking about is a classic example of applying **Gay-Lussac's law** of combining volumes of gases. This law states that the ratio of the volumes of gases involved in a chemical reaction is directly proportional to the ratio of stoichiometric coefficients in the balanced chemical equation, provided all gases are at the same temperature and pressure.

In simpler terms, this means that if you have a chemical reaction involving gases, the volumes of the gases react with each other in the same ratio as the numbers in front of them in the balanced chemical equation.

In your problem, you have 1 litre of a monoatomic gas, X, combining with 1.5 litres of an oxide. This gives us a volume ratio of 1:1.5. We can simplify this ratio to 2:3 by multiplying both sides by 2.

This ratio tells us that two molecules of gas X react with three molecules of the oxide to produce the final product. Therefore, the formula of the oxide must be X2O3, because there are two atoms of X for every three atoms of oxygen.

So, the correct answer is **B. X2O3**.

I hope this explanation helps! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. 😊

It's simple X is 1litre the oxide is 3/2 Same as 1½ so X1O3/2 since chemicals combine in whole number ratio we multiply by 2 to cancel the fraction and there you have it 2(X1) 2(O3/2) = X2O3

The Answer is A, here are the valid reasons...

Since we are dealing with volumes and not valency, the rule of valency will not work here, hence

X + 3/2 O2 ===> AN OXIDE

where X is monoatomic element of 1 liter and Oxygen has a volume of 3/2 liters

To find the oxide, we have to first eliminate the denominators, by multiplying both sides by 2

=> 2X + 3O2 ==> ?

=>> The product would be

2X + 3O2 => X2O6

hence, X2O6 resonates with 2XO3 Which is correct 💯

A is correct ✔️

it's volume that's in consideration, not valency so don't confuse urself by switching the values for X and 0. therefore the correct answer is X2O3 ✍️
