The central vacuole in plant cells plays a critical role in providing structural support through turgor pressure. When the vacuole is filled with water, it pushes against the cell wall, creating internal hydrostatic pressure that keeps the plant cell rigid and upright. This is why plants wilt when they are dehydrated and their vacuoles lose water.
