Nervous control and hormonal (endocrine) control are the two primary communication systems in the body. They differ significantly in speed and duration of effect.
Nervous responses are generally short-term and immediate, such as a muscle contraction or a reflex action, because neurotransmitters are rapidly inactivated or reabsorbed after transmission.
Also, the nervous system uses electrical impulses along neurons, allowing for near-instantaneous responses (milliseconds), whereas hormonal control relies on chemicals traveling through the bloodstream, which is much slower.
