A pigment spot (also known as eyespot) is a plant-like feature in Euglena because it contains pigments (such as chlorophyll or carotenoids) that allow the organism to detect light. This enables Euglena to move toward light sources to perform photosynthesis, an autotrophic process characteristic of plants.
