The coronary artery is specifically responsible for supplying oxygenated blood to the tissues and muscles of the heart itself.
The coronary arteries are the first branches to exit the aorta immediately after it leaves the left ventricle. Because the heart is a highly active muscle, it cannot receive enough oxygen simply from the blood passing through its chambers; instead, it relies on this dedicated network of coronary vessels to deliver blood directly to the myocardium (heart muscle).
