DNA is a very large molecule (a polymer) made up of repeating smaller units called nucleotides. Each nucleotide in a DNA molecule consists of three components:
- A phosphate group.
- A deoxyribose sugar (a pentose sugar).
- One of four nitrogenous bases (adenine, guanine, cytosine, or thymine).
