The rhizoids of liverworts are unicellular and unbranched. Rhizoids are root-like structures that anchor liverworts to the ground.
In contrast, mosses have multicellular rhizoids. In vascular plants, rhizoids are often called root hairs and can be unicellular or multicellular.
